My name is Lynn, Chou Kei Rin is not my real name. It is the Japanese name found for me by a Japanese student of ours.

I'm a third generation family trained potter in Singapore and I work in my family's pottery studio. Although I have been exposed to clay/pottery since I was a child, I've only officially started going into this line in end 2010. A visit to Japan the same year opened a new perspective on pottery for me.

In Oct 2011, I held my first exhibition (Ceramix 2011 - Simply Clay) together with 15 other hobby potters.

Glazing fail

I had one bisqued teapot which I left unglazed for months because I don’t know what color to glaze. I made a wrong choice by using buff stoneware clay. I had a nice tiny leaf on the teapot cover, and I had a hard time deciding what green to use. In the end I choose our crackle green glaze. I’m actually trying my luck because usually that green turns out like crap on buff clay. But if I’m lucky enough, it’ be a nice green with a yellowish rim.

Too bad, I’m not lucky enough. It came out of the kiln today and it looked horrendous. But well, lesson learnt. I’m replacing it now, this time with white stoneware clay. I have choice of color in mind too. Fingers crossed!

Ok. Great news, well, great OLD news. I sold this baby of mine 2 weeks ago. Very happy coz the person really liked it. Seriously, nothing is better than selling your work off to someone who appreciates it.Handle is actually made of clay, if you haven’t realised by now. Fired at cone 6.

My uncle was invited to Whampoa Community Centre (Singapore) for a 1 hour pottery demonstration. This video is a quick demonstration by him on throwing a teapot cover and spout.

If you’re new to pottery, I’m telling ya he’s doing it at GODSPEED.

If you’re interested in him, you can find his details here: http://smkpottery.com/potters/sookhim.html

For a friend’s 24th birthday. The color wasn’t what I’d expected and for a moment I was reluctant to keep it, but I grew to like it a lot. My friend liked it too, luckily. And I might just want to try the same again.

Post 500 teapot submission

2 weeks ago, I’ve mailed out the necessary things required for the 500 teapot submission by Lark Crafts. Till today, there are no news from them. Should I be worried?

I wonder how it works…

That aside, I’ve got a 5cm teapot that I sent for firing yesterday. I wonder how it’ll turn out. Fingers crossed!

I was told that it looked like Aladdin. I named it Fiery, for it’s color.

Go With the Flow. This was in the catalogue too. Also one of my earlier works, done without much thinking, much like going with the flow.
